Ajisai

Hydrangeas are called "Ajisai" in Japanese.
We can see them in June, the rainy season.

The photo looks beautiful, doesn't it?

Ajisai is one of our pleasurs in this maggy and dismal weather.

"Ajisai Dera"(Hydrangea Temple) in Kamakura is a popular place to enjoy a nice hydrangea garden.
It's not that far from here. I think it takes about 1 hour from my house.
I'm planning to visit there.

In my opinion, hydrangeas look like rain drops.
Don't you think so?

  • That's such a beautiful picture!

Thanks, Erin. Ajisai needs much water to keep fresh..It's shortlived.

  • The picture is really good! I saw some flowers in Germany, they are looking like this, but a bit different. Maybe its also a kind of Ajisai.

That's cool! It's exciting to imagine we are sharing the same pleasures even though our countries are different. Maybe it's natural 'cause we are living beneath the same sky:D

  • Oh, beautiful!
Recently, I can't see them near my house. When I went to school, I often saw it.
As for me, I like pink one:-)

The colors of Ajisai are due to the soil pH.
Pink Ajisai remainds me of the sad story "Sekachyu".
Did you see the beautiful pink Ajisai hill where they kissed for the first time?

  • I know how to say the phrases I use and to write in hiragana and katakana but I understand very few kanji. When I use kanji I find them using this website.

I am going to a university in Tokyo in the fall and so I am trying to improve my Japanese.

ホント?You're coming to Tokyo this 秋!? How nice!
    ようこそ!Welcome!
What are you gonna major in? Computer tecnology? Economics or something?
    Japanese resorces.com is interesting. I can use it as a Japanese-English dictionary:D
If you have time, please check
this out. It's "NHK Japanse Lessons-やさしい日本語". It's just been changed the desigh and now look much nicer. I sometimes check out Japanese lessons in English/Spanish/Mandarin to learn them.

  • Last year, my wife and her friend took me to KAMAKURA to see hydrangeas. I remember that they were so beautiful. How about this year? I'd like to see them again.
